19th Senate District Update: February 2, 2024

Hello! This week, I testified on two bills I authored that received a public hearing. The first bill, Assembly Bill 774, would help identify and treat active psychosis and mental health treatment for prisoners. This bill would require training for correctional officers on how to identify and report symptoms of psychosis and the transfer of inmates in active psychosis to a mental health treatment facility or the Wisconsin Resource Center.

The second bill, Senate Bill 572, will allow two or more municipalities to form multijurisdictional business improvement districts (BIDs) and neighborhood improvement districts (NIDs). This bill will eliminate an unnecessary obstacle in providing improvements to these areas for local businesses, especially when one incorporated community is completely landlocked by other incorporated communities.

The Senate Universities and Revenue Committee and the Mental Health Committee met this week to hear important bills making their way through the legislative process. I also visited the Appleton Beer Factory. This was a very fun and informative visit, and I appreciate them showing us around!

My staff and I were also happy to meet with:

  • Wisconsin Fmaily Action
  • Canine Companions
  • Wisconsin Credit Union League
  • The Olson Family
  • Wisconsin Association of Family & Children’s Agencies
  • TDS Telecommunications Corporation
  • Wisconsin Farm Bureau
  • WI Technology Council
  • Wisconsin Occupational Therapy Association
  • Appleton Beer Factory

Next week, the Senate Health Committee and several other committee hearings will be taking place in the capitol! Two committees I serve on will be meeting, plus more bills I authored are continuing to move through the public hearing process. Here is the full calendar of events. I am also looking forward to many meetings around our area!
