4th Assembly District Update: November 22, 2023

I’d like to take a moment to wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are able to spend time with loved ones, enjoying each other’s company and reflecting on this year’s blessings. I am, and continue to be, incredibly thankful to serve as your voice in our State Capitol. I take this responsibility with great seriousness and am grateful and honored to serve the amazing residents of the 4th Assembly District!

Supporting Bipartisan Mental Health Solutions

I previously filled you in on legislation I authored to expand access to mental health services in our schools, but I want to take a moment to share with you numerous other initiatives I’ve proudly supported to help address mental health needs in our state. I am very proud of the bipartisan work being done to address this critical issue.

Expanding Telehealth Services: In an effort to expand access to mental health professionals, particularly in our rural areas, legislation was passed to expand telehealth services provided by out-of-state professionals. This will make it easier for providers outside of Wisconsin to connect with Wisconsinites in need of services.

Additional Training for First Responders: First responders play a critical role in identifying mental health concerns when interacting with individuals. Given this role, a pilot program was created to provide law enforcement with additional training, specifically focused on how to identify and support mental health needs. This program also gives law enforcement 24/7 virtual access to mental health professionals to assist law enforcement in the field.

Peer Support Counseling: This bill creates peer support and critical incident stress management (CISM) service teams. These teams provide support to public safety employees during times of personal or professional crisis. This often looks like one-on-one support from peers to help work through everyday work and life challenges.
