Nominate a First Responder of the Year
I am seeking nominations for the First Responder of the Year Award for the 56th Assembly District. “First Responder” includes police and sheriff officers, firefighters and EMS personnel.
Nominations can be based on a variety of criteria, including a specific heroic action, a significant professional achievement, someone’s body of work over time, something special they do for the community relating to their work or their length of service.
Nominations are due September 29th, and the winner will be invited to a special recognition ceremony in the State Assembly chamber on October 17th.
If you would like to nominate someone for First Responder of the Year, please send the person’s name, job title and the reason for your nomination to my email address at Rep.Murphy@legis.wisconsin.gov
POW/MIA Recognition Day
Today is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. Each year since 1989, a presidential proclamation brings the nation together to remember and honor the members of the Armed Forces who remain missing in action or are prisoners of war.
The POW/MIA Flag is flown on this day over significant national landmarks and government buildings across the country. Not only do the Capitol, the White House, and the Korean and Vietnam Veterans Memorials fly the flag, but so do the offices of the secretaries of State, Defense and Veterans Affairs, and of the Selective Service System. Additionally, the POW/MIA Flag flies on the grounds or in the lobbies of every major military installation, post office, and all VA Medical Centers and national cemeteries.
Exceptional Eagle Scout
Monday night I was proud to attend the Court of Honor for Eagle Scout Riley Mooney [see photo above]. Riley earned all 139 merit badges a scout can earn! Going back to 1914, only 544 scouts have achieved this accomplishment.
To put that in perspective, Boy Scouts of America’s web site says that since the organization’s inception in 1910, “more than 130 million young men and women have participated in the BSA’s youth programs.”

Appleton Manufacturing Inspirations Day
Manufacturers from around Wisconsin are invited to participate in the Appleton Manufacturing Inspirations Day, an interactive career fair co-hosted by A-TECH and the Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce on October 4th.
Manufacturers are encouraged to bring activities that will engage students and help them better understand what each company does; an active and hands-on way to experience each industry.
