Winneconne Listening Session and More
Happy Valentine’s Day! This week, the senate mental health committee held a hearing on a bill permitting technical colleges to lease part of their facilities to others, opening up the possibility for childcare providers to offer services in a setting with many working and non-traditional students.
We also had our first senate health committee public hearing this year to advance bills through the legislative process, including informed consent for patients, direct primary care, and extending coverage for postpartum moms for up to a year. These bills will increase transparency, expand patient options, and support our moms in Wisconsin!
On the assembly side, I testified again for direct primary care and a proposal limiting distracting devices in classrooms. As a mom, I’ve seen the negative impacts constant phone use can have on our kids, particularly at school. If it’s not being used for education, put the phones away!
We also had meetings this week on a number of topics ranging from the upcoming budget, the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund, and our local libraries!
Around our area, I was able to participate in the Troop 3 Pancake breakfast at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Neenah. It was a great event and I’d like to thank all those who participated. I would also like to thank the Samaritan Counseling Center of the Fox Valley for giving me a tour of their organization and showing me the great work they are doing. The Samaritan Wellness Screen program focuses on the early identification of youth mental health concerns, offering students the support they need before challenges escalate.
Lastly, thank you to the folks who braved the weather on Wednesday for our budget listening session in Winneconne. I’m glad we were able to discuss issues facing our local communities and thank you to Senator Testin for joining in Winneconne as well!
My staff and I were happy to meet with:
- Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities
- Wisconsin Library Association
- Wisconsin Beverage Association
- Wisconsin Independent Businesses
- Wisconsin Association for Homeless and Runaway Services
- Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities
- Oshkosh Boys and Girls Club
- Wyldewood Christian School
- Samaritan Counseling
- UW-Milwaukee
- Ducks Unlimited
- Wisconsin Counties Association
- ABATE
- Alzheimer’s Association
