4th Assembly District Update: April 25, 2025

One Step Closer in Advancing Nuclear Power

I testified this week with Representative Sortwell and State Senator Bradley on a bipartisan pair of bills we authored that will move Wisconsin forward in the nuclear energy space. Under the proposals, the state will conduct a nuclear power siting study and host the Wisconsin Nuclear Power Summit.

I am thrilled to see so much interest and momentum in advancing nuclear power in Wisconsin. Our state, with its robust research, development, and manufacturing sectors, is in a position to fully take advantage of this future energy source. A siting study and summit are key steps we can take today to move nuclear power forward in Wisconsin.

The first proposal, Assembly Bill 108, instructs the state to conduct a nuclear power siting study to identify potential host communities for nuclear power generation.

Under the second proposal, Assembly Bill 132, the state will host the Wisconsin Nuclear Power Summit. The event will bring together industry leaders, subject-matter experts, investors, and public policy officials to provide participants with education and information-sharing opportunities. The summit will advance nuclear power and fusion technology while highlighting Wisconsin’s leadership in this space.

Wisconsin must act now to embrace nuclear energy as a safe, clean, and reliable solution to our growing power needs. With the emergence of AI and the dramatic increase in energy demands, Wisconsin must stay at the forefront of this riveting industry.

The sole nuclear plant operating in Wisconsin is responsible for about 16% of our electricity supply and 66% of our carbon-free production, displaying the astounding opportunity nuclear is for our state. This legislation lays the groundwork so that we are ready to embrace innovative nuclear technologies that will power our economy for decades to come.

The bills are now available for a committee vote before advancing in the legislative process.

National Drug Take Back Day

National Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 26th. This biannual event has participation from law enforcement agencies and state and local health departments in an effort to encourage Wisconsinites to dispose of unwanted and unused medications in a safe and responsible manner.

Utilizing these resources can work to prevent harm and abuses of over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs. This includes keeping these substances out of our environment and our water supply by handing them to appropriate authorities to be properly disposed of.

Collection sites in and around the fourth Assembly District happening this Saturday are:
