Assembly Votes to Clean Up Waste, Fraud, and Abuse in the Unemployment Insurance System
On Tuesday the Assembly passed a package of bills that support and advance workforce development reforms to root out fraud, help get people back to work, and stimulate the economy. Assembly Bill 167 updates state statute so that people who steal from employers, destroy property, and constantly fail to show up to work can’t claim unemployment benefits. Assembly Bill 168, and Assembly Bill 169 will prevent waste, fraud, and abuse in the unemployment Insurance system and increase accountability. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed issues in the system as Wisconsin’s rate of improper payments is higher than the national average. I was proud to co-sponsor these important bills to bring accountability and restore faith in the system.
Capitol Meetings
On Wednesday I hosted Dr. Eric Fulcomer of the Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. We discussed higher education issues, and dual enrollment. Thank you, Dr. Fulcomer, for stopping by.
This week Patty from the Wisconsin Dental Hygienists visited the office [see featured photo above] to discuss healthcare and workforce development issues. Patty owns a business in my district and was in Madison as part of WDH’s Capitol Day.
