Session 6/24
On Tuesday 6/24 the Assembly met for session. I voted in favor of all the following bills. The bills in this newsletter are related to nuclear energy and children and families. The remainder of the bills will come next week.
AB 108 requires the Public Service Commission to conduct a nuclear power siting study and to submit a report to the legislature containing the results of the study. The study will identify nuclear power generation opportunities on both existing nuclear and non-nuclear power generation sites, identify new nuclear power and fusion energy generation sites that aren’t currently dedicated to power generation, identify sites for the development of nuclear fission and fusion technologies, develop guidance for advanced nuclear fission and fusion reactors.I authored AB 108 to help meet rising energy demands with carbon-free, domestic, safe, reliable, and affordable energy. This bill was enacted into law by Governor Evers on July 2 as Act 12. You can watch my speech here.
In addition to these two bills, I am currently working on several more bills to promote nuclear power and hope to release them this fall.
AB 132 creates the State of Wisconsin Nuclear Power Summit Board with the task of organizing and hosting a nuclear power summit in Madison.
AB 113 requires the Department of Health Services (DHS) to create and maintain a portal to store and share safety plans for minors. Safety plans are a document written to help provide guidance on how to help an individual when they are experiencing a mental health or developmental crisis.
AB 123 adds a requirement to current law regarding court approval for one parent to move more then 100-miles away from the other parent. This bill requires the distance to be calculated as the driving miles as apposed to a straight line from one location to the other.
AB 153 modifies current law regarding notifications of income change for child support or maintenance orders. It expands the requirement to provide notice of changes in employment or substantial income change to include the parent receiving support.
