Happy Friday!
This week, we were happy to celebrate 60 years of economic success at Appleton International Airport. This airport continues to grow at a rapid pace and is a vital part of the future of the Fox Valley!
In Madison, four bills I authored or co-authored were signed into law by the governor. Assembly Bill 257, the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Modernization Act, will allow more autonomy for advanced practice nurses in Wisconsin and increase access for folks across the state. That bill has been over 10 years in the making, and I thank everyone involved for getting it over the finish line this session!
Senate Bill 31 will provide physician assistants or advanced practice nurses serving as local health officers the same state agent status as doctors, making that role more appealing for nurses and benefiting areas with severe physician shortages.
Senate Bill 43 will allow advanced practice nurse prescribers to pronounce the date, time, and place of a patient’s death for purposes of the preparation of death records. Allowing APNPs to make pronouncements will not only help hospitals and long-term care facilities start the death records process more efficiently, but it will also cut down delays for families and loved ones seeking closure.
Senate Bill 152 will ensure all funds for the Alzheimer’s Family and Caregiver Support Program (AFCSP) can be utilized to assist families and their loved ones. AFCSP helps Wisconsin families provide care for loved ones at home, improving quality of life and reducing the burden of health care costs. Due to outdated eligibility criteria, counties administering the program are struggling to spend the funds the state provides. This law eliminates the outdated income cap eligibility barrier for the program.
Continuing to get work done!
Lastly, I look forward to seeing folks around this weekend. The Waushara County Fair has a great lineup of food and fun, and XRoads41 is on for another great year in Oshkosh!
