GOAT Committee Hearing 10/23
On October 15th an article was published by the Capital Times that they discovered the cover up of 200 teacher sexual misconduct and grooming cases in Wisconsin schools. This article caught the attention of law makers and prompted the scheduling of a hearing by the committee on Government Operation, Accountability, and Transparency (GOAT).
You can read the article by the Capital Times here.
On October 23rd the Assembly GOAT Committee held a special hearing to question DPI on how they have handled teachers accused of sexual misconduct and grooming and to hear from police regarding charging of teachers accused of grooming students. This hearing was necessary to address the serious allegations that 200 teacher sexual misconduct cases were covered up. We also discussed the potential need for improvement of the law to help charge and protect students from teachers accused of sexual misconduct and grooming.
We need to ensure the safety of our students and protect them from predatory teachers. We want to hold DPI accountable and ensure that they take action to protect our students whenever there are allegations of of any kind, but especially accusations of sexual misconduct conduct.
A news report regarding this hearing can be found here.
The committee voted to seek an opinion from the Attorney General asking if grooming fits the definition of immoral behavior under statute 115.31(c) for “immoral conduct.”
