Congressman Tony Wied’s Update: November 7, 2025

This week, the Democrat’s government shutdown became the longest shutdown in the history of our nation. As I have said to you for weeks, this disaster was completely avoidable. House Republicans passed a clean continuing resolution (CR) to keep the government open, and Senate Republicans have continuously voted to pass it as well.

However, for the first time in U.S. history, Senate Democrats have chosen to filibuster a clean CR and hold our government hostage. This is simply because they want to appeal to the radical far left that has hijacked the Democratic Party.

The American people are suffering because of this selfish move by Senate Democrats, including Senator Tammy Baldwin. In Wisconsin, 700,000 people are losing access to FoodShare. Farmers are struggling to get access to loans and other important services. Federal employees are working without pay. Hundreds of flights are being cancelled due to a lack of air traffic controllers. This cannot be allowed to go on any longer.

Senate Democrats have voted to keep the government closed 14 times. They have made it clear that they are happy to use the struggling of hardworking Americans as “leverage.”

If they want to continue to refuse to work with us for the good of the country and to put an end to the needless suffering of the American people, then the time has come for Republicans to end the filibuster and get it done ourselves.

This has gone on for far too long. It’s time for Senate Republicans to act and open our government immediately.

Thanks again for starting your weekend off with us! We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Wied Wire.

District Update

The 2025 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin
I had the opportunity to join the Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce (WMC) to recognize 1000 Island Airboats for being named the 2025 Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin! 1000 Island Airboats is a business located in Marion, WI that provides dependable, high-performance airboats that are utilized by municipalities and federal agencies. Congratulations to the entire team at 1000 Airboats on being recognized with this incredible award and for your continued innovation and hard work! Manufacturers like 1000 Airboats are a shining example of the strength of industry that we have here in the 8th District and throughout the State of Wisconsin.

No Tricks, Just Treats: The Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay
[see featured photo above] On Halloween, I had the pleasure to join AT&T at the Boys and Girls Club in Green Bay as they generously presented a $25,000 check and 150 Chromebook laptops to students in support of digital literacy programs. It was great to connect with leaders at the Boys and Girls Club and students to discuss the importance of staying connected and bridging the digital divide. Thank you to the Boys and Girls Club for having me and for AT&T for your support of the Greater Green Bay community!

2025 Service Academy Nominations
This past weekend, my Service Academy Nominating Committee conducted candidate interviews for young men and women who wish to attend one of our nation’s great Service Academies. The ability to nominate students to attend a Service Academy is one of the greatest honors of my job, and we were fortunate to meet some truly exceptional candidates this year from throughout the 8th Congressional District.

If you or anyone you know is interested in learning more about the Congressional nomination process, you can find additional information on my website here.

Honoring Local Heroes
I had the pleasure of welcoming home the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight of Champions at the Austin Straubel Airport this past weekend. One of the most meaningful parts of my job is supporting our veterans, and honor flights provide an incredible opportunity for men and women to visit memorials and connect with fellow servicemembers. Thank you to every veteran for your sacrifice, and to Stars and Stripes and their volunteers for making these trips possible.
