Happy New Year!
It is a privilege to serve the people of the 4th Assembly District in the State Legislature, and I’m thankful to have another year in the books. I’m proud to take this opportunity to highlight a few of my legislative accomplishments in 2025:
- In the state budget I authored legislation enacting tax-free retirement for ¾ of all seniors in Wisconsin. The law now exempts retirement income from state taxes up to $24,000 for individuals ages 67 and older and $48,000 for married couples ages 67 and older. This levels the playing field for retirement plans and aids seniors on fixed incomes. Importantly, this helps Wisconsin retain more retirees, a win for our families, communities and economy.
- Act 11 designates Wisconsin to host the “Wisconsin Nuclear Power Summit.” The Summit will bring together industry leaders, subject-matter experts, investors, and public policy officials to showcase Wisconsin’s leadership in the nuclear industry and to identify the next steps for nuclear development in Wisconsin
- Act 12 instructs the state to conduct a nuclear power siting study to identify potential host communities for nuclear power generation. This is a critical step in moving nuclear power forward in Wisconsin.
- Assembly Joint Resolution 6 recognizes nuclear power as a clean energy source critical to safely meeting Wisconsin’s growing energy demands and in declaring our state’s commitment to developing, expanding, and investing in nuclear power.
- Act 43 creates a process for various candidates at the state and federal levels to withdraw their candidacy if they have suspended their campaign. Wisconsin has now joined the vast majority of other states that have a pathway for candidates to remove their names from the ballot. This Act acknowledges real-world conditions affecting a candidate’s campaign, leading to less confusion for Wisconsin voters.
I continue to have a number of proposals working their way through the process, including addressing the case backlog in our criminal justice system, establishing stronger protections for kids online, and supporting our loggers and farmers via sustainable aviation fuel production. 2026 will bring new challenges and opportunities, and I’m looking forward to another year of service to the 4th Assembly District.
I wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
