Congressman Tony Wied’s Update: January 16, 2026

Over the last year, I have split my time between Washington, DC and Northeast Wisconsin. If I wasn’t already sure how proud I am to call Wisconsin’s 8th District home, that appreciation has only grown stronger.

In Northeast Wisconsin, we believe in open and honest dialogue. We can tackle problems without attacking people. That’s a far cry from the petty, back-and-forth politics that seem to consume Washington.

That is why, as the Representative for Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, there is nothing I enjoy more than hearing directly from you. This past Monday, I held a tele-town hall from my Washington, DC office to listen and learn about the issues that matter to you most.

Each of your questions were very thoughtful, and I was grateful we were able to address nearly all of the most pressing issues that are dominating the headlines. Even though we may not always agree on every issue, your feedback and opinions are invaluable to me.

From the capture of Maduro in Venezuela, to ICE and the unrest in Minneapolis, to my vote to release the Epstein files and discussions on health care, we covered a wide range of topics and had a meaningful exchange of ideas.

Over the past year, we’ve accomplished a lot—from ending taxes on tips and overtime to delivering the largest tax deduction for seniors in American history, securing our border, and reining in reckless federal spending. I was proud to support these policies and appreciated the opportunity to discuss them with you directly.

My top priority in Washington is to represent the commonsense values of Northeast Wisconsinites. I cannot do that without hearing your input and understanding your needs. I look forward to speaking to you again soon.

To everyone who was able to join our tele–town hall on Monday—thank you. I will be including the results to the two polls you answered below!

Please know that my office is always open. If you want to provide me with feedback or need assistance, do not hesitate to reach out. This job is not about politics — it’s about representing you and it is an honor I do not take for granted.

Thanks again for starting off your weekend with us! We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Wied Wire.

Do you support expanding American energy production to lower costs and reduce reliance on foreign countries?

Do you support efforts to expand competition and choice in order to lower healthcare costs?

Words Have Consequences
As I stated last week, for years Democrat elected officials have vilified ICE officers and compared them to some of the worst groups in history. This type of inflammatory rhetoric only deepens the division in our country and puts our law enforcement officers at greater risk. Last week, after a woman attempted to use her vehicle as a deadly weapon against an ICE officer, he was forced to fatally discharge his weapon. Then, this week, while attempting to arrest an illegal alien, an ICE officer was ambushed and repeatedly struck with a shovel and broom — forcing him to discharge his weapon, shooting the assailant in the leg. These types of incidents did not happen by accident. The repeated vilification of these officers by elected officials is allowing people to feel justified for assaulting or harming them. I have consistently said that we need to turn down the temperature in this country. Elected officials have a responsibility to lead by example. The American people sent President Trump and Congressional Republicans to Washington to secure our border and deport illegal aliens. That is what ICE is trying to do. They should be able to do their jobs without fearing for their lives.

Got Milk? Kids Do Again!
I’m excited to share that this week, President Trump signed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act into law—a bill I proudly cosponsored. This law brings whole and 2% milk back to school lunches, giving children access to delicious and nutritious options. Unfortunately, in the early 2010s, these two milk options were removed from the National School Lunch Program, despite children routinely picking them over 1% or skim milk. This bill brings the National School Lunch Program in line with the leading nutrition science that whole and 2% milk provide the most nutrients. I’d also like to give a shoutout to WI-08 resident and dairy farmer Jamie Witcpalek, who attended the bill signing at the White House this week. Jamie is a passionate advocate for the dairy industry, and I’m proud to have had her representing our farmers in the oval office.

District Update

Recognizing Josie Pethan’s Heroism
I recently had the pleasure to recognize the heroic acts of 11-year-old Josie Pethan from Appleton during a speech on the House Floor. While at home from school, her mother suffered a sudden medical emergency, and Josie took swift action to contact nearby family members and emergency services and began CPR. Josie, on behalf of everyone in Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District, I want you to know how proud we are of you and happy we are that your mother is doing well.

Constituent Services Spotlight
Providing the best constituent services to the people of Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District is a top priority for me, from Veterans Affairs (VA) to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), my staff and I are here to help! If you or anyone you know are in need of assistance with a Federal Agency, you can contact my District Office at 920-301-4500 or submit a message through my website here.
