Happy Friday! This was another busy and productive week in the Legislature, filled with a full schedule of discussions, a key Senate Health Committee hearing, and numerous meetings both in Madison and around our area.
We kicked off the week in the Capitol by hosting several advocacy groups for productive conversations about ongoing legislation and future initiatives. Among them were representatives from Acton Academy and the Wisconsin Credit Union League. I also participated in the Senate Mental Health Public Hearing, where we heard testimony on a number of significant bills—including improvements to Wisconsin’s “Safe Haven” law and supporting health care provider mental health. In addition, my staff provided a Capitol tour for students and staff from Wyldewood Christian School, who were visiting as part of National School Choice Week.
On Wednesday, the Senate Agriculture and Revenue Committee held a public hearing on several important bills advancing through the process. This included my proposal, Senate Bill 748, a statutory cleanup measure designed to increase administrative ease for stakeholders while significantly improving the marketplace for Wisconsin dealers and investors. That same day, we met with folks from the Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Wisconsin Electric Cooperative Association, the Wisconsin Education Association Council, and several private school principals from across the state to discuss current legislation and emerging priorities.
Thursday featured a lengthy public hearing in the Senate Health Committee, where we considered a range of bills, including measures to bar the use of live animals in medical training, prohibit noncompete clauses for medical practitioners after a certain time period, allow discounts for prompt payment of health care fees, authorize remote dispensing sites under pharmacy practice law, and expand the scope of practice for audiologists. I’m especially pleased to see the noncompete legislation move through the legislative process—this bill is a critical step toward addressing our healthcare worker shortage and increasing patient access to care.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
