4th Assembly District E-Update: March 3, 2023

Hello, welcome to my e-update!

Thank you for being an informed constituent of Wisconsin’s 4th State Assembly District. In my newsletter you will find updates about your community, the state legislature, and everything in between.

Committee This Week

This week, the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety met for a public hearing on several bills. The topics we covered in the hearing included penalties for reckless driving, mandatory minimum sentences for illegal possession of a firearm by a felon, and increasing the penalties for first-degree reckless homicide. Public hearings are a great chance for myself and my colleagues to learn more about bills from their authors, as well as any supporting or opposing messages.

To learn more about each of the bills heard in the committee this week, visit this website for details: https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/raw/cid/1712324.

Supporting Local Law Enforcement

One of the bills discussed in the Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety this week was AB 51, a bill I worked on with my colleague Rep. John Macco. AB 51 is a police parity bill that allows local law enforcement agencies to expand and diversify their hiring pool. This will allow them to add more, quality officers to their force.

To take a look for yourself at the bill, its text can be found here:  https://docs.legis.wisconsin.gov/2023/related/proposals/ab51.
