When you pay your taxes, you deserve to know that the government is being a good steward of your taxpayer dollars. That means not only making sure your tax dollars are spent wisely but also preventing fraudsters from intercepting your money and using it for their own personal gain.
As you know, we have seen far too many instances of fraud here in our district, across Wisconsin, and throughout the country in recent years. We can no longer stand by and allow it to continue.
This week, I was proud to welcome Vice President JD Vance to Wisconsin to discuss our ongoing efforts to root out this waste, fraud, and abuse in government and put American taxpayers first.
In Congress, we are advancing legislation like the No Funds for Repeat Child Care Violations Act of 2026, which strengthens accountability by ensuring taxpayer dollars are not sent to repeat violators of child care regulations and safety standards, as well as the Fraud Prevention and Accountability Act, which would establish a permanent watchdog to protect taxpayer dollars. At the same time, Vice President Vance is leading the Administration’s anti-fraud task force to crack down on fraud across the federal government.
Those efforts are already producing results. The Department of Justice recently announced the 2026 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, which resulted in charges against 455 defendants in connection with more than $6.5 billion in alleged fraud. The Vice President’s task force has also identified $6.3 billion in suspected fraudulent government contracts, blocked $60 million in fraudulent student loan applications, and uncovered widespread child care fraud in Minnesota, where more than 20 daycare centers have been raided, and more than 60 individuals have either been convicted or pleaded guilty.
When fraud like this takes place, it is the most vulnerable Americans who suffer the most. Every dollar stolen from these programs is a dollar taken away from the people who truly need it.
Any amount of fraud involving your taxpayer dollars is too much. You work too hard for your money, and I will not stand idly by while fraudsters attempt to benefit from your hard work.
Unfortunately, our Democrat colleagues have not joined us in these efforts. Here in Wisconsin, Democrats vetoed efforts to audit food stamps, the appointment of 4 new state auditors, and even a bill that would prevent illegal aliens from receiving Medicaid.
If they will not work with us to tackle fraud, Republicans will do it alone, and that is exactly what we are hard at work doing for you in Washington. Whether through new legislation or the Administration’s anti-fraud task force, we will do everything we can to protect your tax dollars and ensure fraudsters are not taking resources away from the Americans who need them most.
Thanks again for starting your weekend with us! We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of The Wied Wire.
