On March 23rd Bill Savage from the Savage Speaks Substack re-posted an article from Attorney Tom Frenn, which was titled Why Does Wisconsin Elect Unethical Supreme Court Judges? The question itself poses a dilemma to me. There are so many possible answers, where do I go first with such limited space?
The first thing that pops into my head is “….because voters are stupid.” But maybe a better answer is “….because voters are so easily manipulated.” From the article: “The last two supreme Court justices won their seats after massive advertising campaigns touting their pro-abortion stances.
The current candidate is outspending her opponent 10 -1 primarily on the abortion issue….(and by) outside spending groups, who often run outrageous ads filled with outright lies.”
Voters, those that are manipulated, stupid or both, tend to believe what they see on CNN or hear on iHeart and react (VOTE) as intended by their puppet masters. If it’s on TV or the radio, it must be true.
But isn’t our government broken up into branches so each branch can keep an eye on the other two? Aren’t there regulations and ethics to which each governmental agency, bureaucrat, politician, or judge is bound? Apparently not. If there is no constraint on government, then ethical and legitimate government does not exist. Again, from the article: “The current Judicial Commission, who is charged with regulating these activities, does nothing. The judges deserve at least a public reprimand, but the commission is silent along with the Ethics Commission and I might add, the state legislature.”
Governors, Senates, Assemblies, Judicial Commissions, Ethics Commissions and Elections Commissions, LIKE CHILDREN, very quickly figure out what they can get away with. And like children, if no one is there to inflict consequences for their actions, those actions become worse and worse.
So, who’s to blame? I’ll let you answer that one. The options are many. But here’s a hint. The ones with the most power tend to be the most corrupt.
