Education and Politics

A commentary piece in The Epoch Times If the Schools Don’t Improve, Nothing Else Will | The Epoch Times points out that the topic of “Education”, while in the forefront of most previous elections, seems to be missing from this year’s election.

I can understand why avoiding the education topic might be hidden by the Dems, but why in the world would candidates like Tom Tiffany and all of the other real Republicans not be pounding the issue? Take Milwaukee, Dane and Brown counties. Take a hard look at the failure of their public schools. Take a hard look at the crime and poverty linked directly to those school systems. Now tell me that a case can’t be made to THE PARENTS of those kids; a case that has the distinct possibility of saving an entire generation.

The public educational system in these three counties is demonstrated to be a failure year after year. And next year will be WORSE than this year. The Democrats run “education” in each of these counties. Every year they cry for MORE money to fix the problems. Every year they get more. And every year they FAIL. THIS FACT needs to be LOUDLY pointed out to those good citizens and proud parents in Milwaukee, Dane and Brown counties.

I might suggest that Mr. Tiffany and those like him drop everything and do an education summit in the affected neighborhoods of each county. Put forward a plan. Cut the crap out of the system saving $MILLIONS. HOLD total spending constant using the “crap” savings to boost instruction needs for math, reading, writing, science and citizenship. Admit that it won’t be easy. Admit that it will require a lot of work and effort. A good analogy might be like taking a poor, underperforming sports team to the league championship. You have to have a plan. You need to put in the work. EVERYONE, parent, kids and administration need to DO THE WORK.

This is a winning issue. If 20% of the voters in these counties buy in and change their votes from “D” to “R”, they would call it a LANDSIDE. Then all that would be needed would be to put the plan into action.
