Enemies of Freedom

Our Founders had a thirst for freedom that could only be quenched by independence. They dreamed of a sovereign nation whose leaders would be citizen legislators, elected by the will of the people, and kept honest by the “free press,” doggedly in pursuit of truth. The nation they envisioned would be made strong by men and women of good will engaging in the spirited debate of ideas; the best ideas and the most persuasive arguments would prevail. They fought and paid for that dream with their blood, sweat, and tears, setting up the generations who followed to live unlike any other people in the world.

As we approach the eve of the midterm elections, one can only imagine how disheartened our Founders would be to see their concerns that corruption would stem from money and power were so well placed. Lying and defaming political opponents have become dominant strategies in acquiring and holding on to power, and the free press is unrecognizable from the sacred trust vested in them 250 years ago.

By the time election day arrives on November 3, voters will be sick to death of the many millions of dollars in advertising, paid for by people and organizations with agendas that have nothing to do with the best interests of the citizens of Wisconsin or the country, and filled with lies and filth about the political enemies they are hoping to defeat and destroy. The political ads – dark and scary, rather than informative and truthful – have already been launched.

Political Lies Are Weapons Against the American People

Over the next couple of months we will hear many malicious political lies. Biased and dishonest members of the media will abet the lies rather than watchdog the truth. We are on our own. One of the ugly lies the Democrats have been spreading is that Trump and the Republicans are throwing thousands of poor people off Medicaid (health coverage for the poor) to give tax cuts to the rich.

The Biden Administration made sweeping changes to the regulations for Medicaid that expanded enrollment by over 11 million people during his term. The net effect was looser enforcement of program rules and people who should have been ineligible receiving benefits. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO), the Federal agency that provides Congress with budget information, estimates that the changes in Medicaid under the Biden Administration will increase spending over earlier projections by an average of $57 billion annually between 2024 and 2034.

The “Big Beautiful Bill” signed into law by President Trump July 4, 2025, includes rigorous enforcement of Medicaid rules including verification of eligibility and strict adherence to work rules for childless, able-bodied adults between the ages of 19 and 64.  It is true that ineligible individuals who have been allowed to remain on Medicaid will no longer be carried; but the Democratic narrative completely ignores the dramatic program growth during the Biden years.

In 2026, $96.2 billion of the $235 billion in Federal program fraud the Trump Administration has uncovered was in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), which administers Medicaid. 295 individuals have been criminally charged with Medicaid fraud. It is estimated that half of $18 billion distributed through the Minnesota Medicaid program since 2018 has been stolen through fraud. More states are being investigated and more than $5.5 billion has been saved or reclaimed in the past six months.

Healthcare is a complex behemoth accounting for nearly 20% of our economy, earning us the distinction of being the country with the highest spending and the worst outcomes in the world among developed nations. Presidents and Congresses prior to Trump used healthcare as a political football but have done nothing meaningful to address it. Trump has gone far beyond putting appropriate controls in place for the Medicaid program (with annual spending of almost $950 billion) to bring real relief to the American people on the cost of health care. He accomplished more in less than two years than everyone who came before him.

He put an end to the outrage of American citizens being charged the highest drug prices in the world by bringing the pharmaceutical companies to the table and demanding Most Favored Nation (MFN) status. Americans will now pay the lowest prices for drugs paid by any nation (projected to save over $500 billion over the next decade). Trump also secured commitments from the major pharmaceutical companies to invest $500 billion in bringing manufacturing and research operations back to the United States.

Last February, the Trump Administration launched Trump Rx, a website for Americans who pay cash for their prescriptions. It is a comparison tool to aid consumers in finding the lowest possible discounts available to them.

Let this single example serve as a warning to voters. We cannot believe anything the political liars say.

Enemies of Freedom

We are denied the serious debates of ideas we should be having about important issues by those who should be leading them. We have real ideological differences to hash over. We cannot have those debates unless they are based on the truth; and at this point in time, standard bearers for the truth are hard to find in the sphere of politics.

Career politicians who have made clinging to power their life’s work are enemies of freedom. Political parties corrupted by money and power are enemies of freedom. Members of the media who have turned their backs on the truth are enemies of freedom. Those strenuously resisting the demands of Wisconsin voters to secure verifiable elections that accurately reflect the will of the voters are enemies of freedom. On its face, this may seem bleak, but we are in this fight to take our country back. You have to know who your enemies are before you can defeat them.
