Why is “education” a partisan issue? The answer is: It’s NOT. Democrats and their media scream “It’s for the children” when they really mean “It’s for themselves”. Republicans … well Republicans tend to be either stupid, gutless or both. Democrats will lie to their constituents about how MORE and MORE MONEY will give your kids a good and safe education. How much money? Why, MORE? There is never enough.
Republicans will lie about expanding school choice when they never make any real effort to get there. They will lie about being fiscally responsible and never address spending. And what are the results? Lower test scores and higher property taxes. Say it isn’t so. I dare you.
And who do these politicians hurt the most? It’s the kids who go to the worst schools. That’s Milwaukee, Madison, Racine, Kenosha, Green Bay, etc. And it’s the parents of those kids who vote for and fix, I mean “run” the elections of the politicians who refuse to help them. You can’t get any more ironic than that. So, if you still think that “education” is a partisan issue, tell me WHY. All of your teachers’ union lackeys out there, explain it to me. You can’t, can you?
Back to school boards. From Part One, what are some questions that you should ask YOUR school board? Here’s a start.
What is the total budget for the current fiscal year?
What is the total number of employees?
How many “teachers” are employed?
How many students do you serve?
These are easy questions with very definable answers. From those answers you can calculate the cost per student and the number of students per employee. If you get answers like $20,000 per student and 6 students per employee, you might think that something needs to change.
Other fun questions:
What are the breakdowns of expenses? i.e., salaries and benefits broken down into teacher and non-teacher, physical plant, transportation, etc.
How many employees will be replaced by on-line apps and AI and how much will that save?
What are the relationships between School Board Members and teachers, teachers’ unions and State or Federal educational bureaucracies? And what are the conflicts of interest?
Are we having fun yet? If your school board fails to answer these questions or just blows smoke up your butt, they do not have the best interest of YOUR children at heart. They are simply flunkies of the FOR-PROFIT education industry and need to be replaced by those who actually care. You know the type. Parents.
