This week has been a challenging one for many of our neighbors across the area. From evacuation orders in Shiocton and Weyauwega to concerns over potential dam failures, the 2026 storm season has already proven difficult. Despite these hardships, our community came together in a powerful way, with volunteers stepping up to fill sandbags, prepare for future storm risks, and support one another during a difficult time. Thank you to everyone who showed up and contributed your time and energy—it truly makes a difference.
Additionally, a joint hearing was held this week by the Senate Mental Health Committee and the Assembly Committee on Children and Families. We heard important testimony from invited speakers at the Department of Children and Families and reviewed the 2024 Wisconsin Child Abuse and Neglect Report, along with the Quarterly and Annual Reports on Sexual Abuse of Children Placed in Out-of-Home Care. These hearings are always difficult, as the stories shared are heartbreaking, but they are necessary if we are to confront these issues and work toward meaningful improvements in the future.
I also had the opportunity to participate in the Wisconsin Nurses Association’s annual Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) clinical pharmacology and practice conference. I was one of six APRN panelists who shared insights on independent practice models, including my own. It was energizing to connect with nurses from across the state and encourage them to practice to the full extent of their training and licensure, especially following the recent passage of the APRN bill. These dedicated professionals will play a vital role in improving access to quality healthcare in Wisconsin, particularly in our rural communities.
Our office also held a productive meeting with representatives from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin and Save Our States Action. We had a thoughtful discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing Wisconsin residents and contractors as we begin preparing legislation for the next session.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful weekend!

Thank you to all the community volunteers who showed up to help out their neighbors this week.
