Happy Friday! This week was incredibly productive, with a full schedule of legislative discussions, a Senate floor session, and various meetings both in Madison and throughout the district. We began the week in the Capitol by hosting several advocacy groups. We met with representatives from mental health clubhouses across the state to discuss ongoing legislation and future initiatives. Additionally, we held informative meetings with audiologists and school nurses to review their specific legislative priorities. Our office also leaned into the technology sector, meeting with representatives from Apple and Waymo to discuss pending bills and their goals for the current session. Finally, I was honored to conduct an interview regarding Gail’s Law, a vital piece of legislation that would provide additional screenings for women with dense breast tissue.
On Wednesday, the Senate convened for a floor session to vote on several significant bills. Key highlights included the “No Tax on Tips” initiative and the Dairy Cattle Innovation Program, which authorizes the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to provide no-interest loans to eligible milk producers to modernize their operations. We also passed the No Patient Left Alone Act, which, upon approval from you, would ensure that residents in long-term care facilities and hospitals can receive visits from loved ones even during communicable disease outbreaks. Other notable measures included a bill requiring a referendum for any new municipal or county “wheel tax,” a federal tax credit for contributions to student scholarship organizations, and a public safety bill aimed at tracking registered sex offenders who do not have a permanent address.
The middle of the week was also marked by several “Lobby Days” at the Capitol. My staff and I had the pleasure of meeting with folks from the Wisconsin Hotel and Lodging Association, the Wisconsin Restaurant Association, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, and the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation. These discussions focused on specific industry-related bills and provided valuable insight into how pending legislation impacts our local businesses and agricultural partners. To wrap up the week, I spent time in Iola meeting with constituents to discuss elder law and explore ways we can improve legal protections and resources for our seniors.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
