Thank you to the Froedtert Hospital for the tour and discussion about their Surgical Technician Program!
Happy Friday! This was a busy and productive week, with significant activity both in Madison and back home here in our area.
In Madison, the Senate Health Committee held an important public hearing to discuss several key pieces of legislation. A central topic was Senate Bill 190, which proposes that Wisconsin join the Respiratory Care Interstate Compact. This compact is crucial for improving patient healthcare by allowing licensed medical professionals in other states to be eligible for reciprocal licensure in Wisconsin, which would help expand our healthcare workforce. We also heard bills aimed at creating dedicated perimenopause and menopause education resources, establishing grants for falls prevention awareness and initiatives among seniors, and requiring hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers to implement necessary policies to prevent exposure to surgical smoke in operating rooms.
Beyond the hearing, I had a valuable opportunity to tour the Surgical Technician Program at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. I truly enjoyed meeting with the dedicated students and staff who are training for these vital roles. It is wonderful to see high-quality programs like this thriving in Wisconsin, and we must continue supporting them to ensure a robust healthcare pipeline and better health outcomes for all residents of our state.
Back here in our area, my team and I met with constituents to discuss crucial issues facing our area, specifically addressing business challenges and exploring new non-profit initiatives across the Appleton area. Looking ahead, I am excited about two wonderful community events taking place this Saturday: the Wautoma Police Department’s Breast Cancer Brat Fry Fundraiser and the Pumpkin Hike in Waupaca.
Finally, I wanted to bring back up an important opportunity that recently came across my desk: The Home Depot is offering free trades training for those interested in preparing for a meaningful career in the skilled trades—please click the link provided to learn more about this excellent program. Additionally, if you haven’t checked it out yet, don’t miss the latest Fall Color Report! Most of our district should be seeing peak color this week and continuing through the first week of November. I hope you and your family have a great weekend!
