Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I hope you have a wonderful time with your friends and family and take time to reflect on all the blessing God has provided over the last year. I want to share a little-known fact about Thanksgiving and the true reason why we celebrate. While it is great to enjoy delicious food and spend time with loved ones it is also important to know the origins of the holiday. So, here is a short recap of the history of Thanksgiving.
When the Pilgrims first arrived in the New World in 1620, they did not immediately seek out fellowship with the Indians. Because the land was bountiful, they decided to share everything among themselves collectively, like socialists. As expected, the Pilgrims did not work hard in the fields and began dying of starvation due to a lack of effort. Because of this failure a change occurred. Governor William Bradford assigned each family a parcel of land to look after, which led to an increase in crop production and eventually the first Thanksgiving in 1621.
Thank God for that early course correction towards private property!
If you’re interested in learning more about that first Thanksgiving, here is a short YouTube video I recommend watching that accurately shares the history: This Thanksgiving, Say Thank You to “Private Property” – YouTube.
With that being said, I hope everybody has a safe and blessed Thanksgiving! As we celebrate, let us remember to give thanks for all we have to be grateful for as Americans. Enjoy your day celebrating in the company of family and friends and take time to reflect on what you are thankful for this year.
