Supporting Agriculture

Agriculture contributes over $116 billion annually to our state’s economy; that’s more than our biennial budget allocates. We are the nation’s top producer of three products: Cheese, producing over 25% of the nation’s cheese, Cranberries, accounting for nearly 60% of U.S. cranberry production; and Ginseng, growing about 95% of the U.S. ginseng crop.

Legislative Republicans have consistently supported our state’s agricultural programs, including investments in local communities through agricultural assistance, county conservation, and water quality. The agriculture sector has a massive impact on the state, and our investments in this vital industry continue to move Wisconsin forward.

The budget included many provisions for this purpose. In grant money, it provides $800,000 for dairy processors, $1M for meat processors, $500,000 for producer-led watershed protection, and $2M for nitrogen optimization.
For programming and staffing, it includes $12M for county conservation staffing, $1.6M for crop rebates, $2.45M for meat inspection, a potential $20M for dairy cattle innovation, and $200,000 for farmer mental health assistance, including a 24-hr WI farmer wellness helpline, tele-counseling sessions, and counseling vouchers for in-person care at participating mental health providers in their area. I am glad to highlight these investments and look forward to continuing to support our farmers.

NFL Draft Brings Massive Economic Impact

According to new analysis, the 2025 NFL Draft was an astounding success, producing a $72.9 million economic impact for Brown County and $104.8 million for the broader region, exceeding expectations and vastly showcasing the community.

I spoke at length before the draft about the need for public safety to display that Green Bay could host such world-class events well into the future. This analysis displays that we can do an excellent job at hosting, and it is of great benefit to the area.

I’m thankful to all those who attended, and importantly, all of those who made this happen; the workers, vendors, planners, and public safety employees who enabled such a remarkable outcome. The study, released by Experience Greater Green Bay Inc., can be read by clicking here.
