Happy Thanksgiving!

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! I always appreciate how this holiday reminds us to slow down and reflect on life’s blessings. I certainly have much to be grateful for, including the honor of continuing to serve as your State Representative–it is truly one of my greatest blessings. I hope you are able to enjoy some extra time celebrating with family and friends during this special time of year!

Wisconsin’s Tax Burden Hits Record Low

Here’s something to be thankful for: a recent report published by the non-partisan Wisconsin Policy Forum showed that Wisconsin’s tax burden has fallen to an all-time low! In 2022, state and local taxes accounted for 9.9% of personal income in Wisconsin, down from 10.3% in 2021. Wisconsin’s tax ranking has fallen to #35 out of the 50 states. To put this in perspective, in 2000 we were the third highest taxed state in the nation, only behind New York and Maine, whereas today, 34 states have a higher tax burden than WI. During that same time period, Wisconsin dropped its tax burden more than any other state! Growth in income, property tax limits and a $1 billion cut to state income tax have all contributed to our state’s falling tax ranking. I am encouraged by the work that’s been done to limit government and reduce taxes on Wisconsinites, but there is still a lot to do! I look forward to continuing that work this coming session, particularly through my “Tax-Free Retirement” proposal.
