Committee Work and Bills
This week, I attended six committee hearings, including an executive session for the Assembly Committee on Science, Technology, and AI (STAC), which I chair. I also testified on one of my bills, Assembly Bill 1027, in the Assembly Committee on Health.
Assembly Bill 1027 relating to: reporting requirements for Wisconsin’s food stamp (SNAP) program to be compiled and submitted to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. This bill ensures compliance with federal requirements so that Wisconsinites continue receiving the federal funds designated for the program. Simply put, this legislation helps safeguard full federal funding for Wisconsin’s SNAP program.
In the Assembly Committee on Science, Technology, and AI, we voted on Assembly Bill 892, which relates to digital asset staking and Wisconsin’s securities laws. The bill passed out of committee on a 3–2 vote and will now head to the Assembly floor.
Assembly Bill 892 cuts red tape and establishes clearer standards, giving businesses and individuals greater confidence to innovate here in Wisconsin. Our state motto is “Forward,” and this bill helps us live up to that commitment by supporting economic growth and keeping Wisconsin competitive in emerging technology industries.
This week, I introduced LRB-6365 and am proud to be the lead author of counter-legislation, LRB-3635, in response to AB 1033. This bill protects Wisconsin’s lakes and waterways by regulating wake-enhanced boating, including impacts from wakeboats, while explicitly preserving the authority of local communities to adopt stricter rules for their lakes. It also provides civil immunity for municipalities enforcing these local regulations.
LRB-3635 has earned support from a broad coalition of conservation groups, lake associations, outdoor organizations, and sportsmen across Wisconsin, including Wisconsin Lakes, Lakes at Stake Wisconsin, Wisconsin’s Green Fire, Wisconsin Wildlife Federation, River Alliance of Wisconsin, Trout Unlimited chapters, Muskies Inc. chapters, and numerous local lake districts.
I am proud to stand with Wisconsin’s sportsmen, conservationists, and local communities to safeguard the lakes and waterways that define our state.
Floor Session
This week, we met twice for floor session. I was pleased to have two of my bills voted on by the Assembly. Both bills—Assembly Bill 277 and Assembly Bill 1005—passed the Assembly and will now move to the Senate floor.
Assembly Bill 277
Relating to: requirements for proposed administrative rules that impose costs. Wisconsin is one of the most heavily regulated states in the country. This bill, along with the broader Reset Package, will help reduce regulatory burdens on Wisconsinites.
Assembly Bill 1005
Relating to: admission to University of Wisconsin System institutions. This bill ensures that UW–Madison, one of the nation’s top institutions, upholds its high standards of academic excellence.
Wisconsin Bankers Association
This week, the Wisconsin Bankers Association held its Advocacy Day. It was great to hear about their current priorities and what they hope to accomplish next session.
