5th Assembly District Update: May 26, 2023

Memorial Day 2023

Legislation

The Assembly was not in session this past week, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy. On Wednesday, the Committee for Regulatory Licensing Reform held a hearing where we voted on five bills, all of which passed.

  • The first was AB-200. This bill requires the Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS) to provide to the legislature a biennial report regarding how long license applications for each profession take to process.
  • Next, AB-201 requires DSPS to provide information to license holders regarding renewal timelines and requirements in a more transparent way.
  • Third, AB-206 requires DSPS to determine for health care provider credentials what reciprocity arrangements are in effect with Wisconsin.
  • Fourth. AB-202 allows DSPS flexibility when performing background checks on license applicants, so that they may focus on issues that are substantially related to the licensed activity, which will speed the processing of the applications.
  • Last was AB-60, which was created in consultation with the DNR with the goal of creating a certification program that will train best-practices on using less salt to de-ice commercial properties, thus protecting Wisconsin’s waters, and the added benefit of decreasing corrosion of roads, bridges, and vehicles.

I have also been busy drafting legislation. One piece of legislation has been in the works since February. After many drafts, and with long hours of research and collaboration with my Senate co-author, Jesse James, I introduced LRB-2586/1. This important legislation will protect Wisconsin’s children by outlawing ultra-realistic sex dolls that are made to resemble children and infants. Unfortunately, they are a reality, and sadly, I have discovered how truly disturbing they are. My press release is below.

With Senate co-author Jesse James, Rep. Joy Goeben introduced LRB-2586/1, which would protect Wisconsin's children by outlawing ultra-realistic sex dolls that are made to resemble children and infants.

At the Capitol

State Rep. Joy Goeben welcomed Kaukauna Mayor Tony Peterman to the state capitol in Madison.

I was happy to welcome Kaukauna Mayor Tony Penterman to the Capitol. I was able to share with him the projected shared revenue Kaukauna would receive when Assembly Bill 245 is passed. We also talked about the new housing bills and how they would be of value to Kaukauna.
