2nd Assembly District Update: May 24, 2023

Welcome back! Last Wednesday, the legislature met and voted in favor of AB 245.

AB 245 creates a new Local Government Segregated Account with funding totaling over $1.5 billion. This bill supports government innovation and shared services and ensures that communities across Wisconsin will see a minimum 15% increase in shared revenue.

We have been working on negotiations with the Senate and governor on this bill and believe we are still making progress. The next step is to have the Senate vote on it this week, and we will move forward from there.

Energy and Utilities Committee

Last Tuesday, the Energy and Utilities Committee held a public hearing on four bills:

  • AB 100 provides that projects for the reduction of infiltration and inflow in
connecting laterals and sewer lines are eligible for funding under the Clean Water
Fund Program (CWFP) administered by the Department of Natural Resources.
  • AB 73 states that certain post-exemption utility aid payments are made only for a production plant that is decommissioned.
  • AB 105 allows the public utility exemption to take place and allow electric cooperatives to operate ATVs and UTVs on public roadways for the purposes of line maintenance, construction, or restoration of power.
  • AB 45 protects consumer choice by prohibiting local governments from placing restrictions on utility services based on the type of fuel source used to provide energy.
