56th Assembly District Update: June 23, 2023

Do you have (or know someone who has) a family member in the US military who is currently either deployed or stationed overseas? If so, please contact my office. My colleagues and I would like to have care packages sent their way as part of Operation We Love Our Troops.  You can reach me at:  Rep.Murphy@legis.wisconsin.gov.

Shared Revenue Bill Becomes Law

The shared revenue bill was signed by Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers.

This week the largest shared revenue increase in state history was signed into law.

I was proud to vote for this measure because municipalities in the 56th District fare very, very well under the new law. The City of Appleton will see a 20% increase, the Town of Dale will see a 165% increase, the Town of Center will see a 234% increase, the Town of Grand Chute will see a 238% increase, and the Village of Greenville will see a whopping 425% increase.

Here’s how the numbers break down for municipalities in the 56th Assembly District:

Municipality Existing Aid New Aid Total Aid Aid Increase
Town of Center $39,139 $91,646 $130,784 234.2%
Town of Dale $47,793 $78,652 $126,446 164.6%
Town of Grand Chute $236,172 $562,490 $798,662 238.2%
Village of Greenville $75,449 $320,761 $396,210 425.1%
City of Appleton $9,630,029 $1,926,006 $11,566,035 20.0%

This new money will be allocated toward important reforms to improve the way local government works.  If local governments come together and provide a service more efficiently, the State will provide a financial incentive to encourage those efficiencies, cost savings and consolidation.  In addition, a portion of the funds will be allocated for law enforcement, fire, EMS, public works and transportation.

Public safety has been, and will continue to be, a top priority for Republicans.  With this law we are taking the steps we need to keep our communities safe and ensure law enforcement gets the resources it needs and not be subject to defunding.

Another provision of the new law, which repeals the personal property tax, will make Wisconsin a more attractive place to live, work and do business.
