Legislation
Last night, after hours of debate, we passed the biennial state budget bill. This is a budget made for Wisconsin, and appropriates almost all funding for state government over a two-year period, including the largest tax cut in state history of $4.4 billion.
The Republican budget invests in priorities of the people of District 5 and throughout Wisconsin, including:
- Increasing transportation funding. $285 million for local road aids, and $125 million for state highway rehabilitation program.
- Investing $1 billion in K-12 education, while strengthening school choice for parents.
- A total of $93 million on child care targeted to support families with the highest need, increase the capacity of licensed child care slots, and double funding for provider retention.
- Boost tourism with $20 million in one-time funding for marketing expansion.
- Strengthening our workforce by funding workforce training in high-need industries, supporting on-the-job training for our youth, and increasing aid for our technical colleges.
- Investments in agriculture, supporting the expansion and promotion of agriculture exports from Wisconsin, doubling funding to expand meat and dairy processor capacity and production, and increasing funding to meet demand for producer-led conservation grants.
- Investments in workforce housing to increase the supply of housing, restore existing housing stock, and convert commercial and Main Street infrastructure to livable space.
- Investing $125 million for addressing and preventing PFAS contamination.
- Prohibit transgender procedures like puberty-blocking drugs or surgeries from being paid for by taxpayers.
