Looking Back
Welcome to 2024! I’d like to take the opportunity to take a look back and provide an overview of some highlights from 2023:
2 bills signed into law:
My Sexual Assault Kits Processing Timeline bill will ensure that justice is provided swiftly to victims of sexual assault. This bill creates a mandatory timeline for the processing of a sexual assault kit when it is received by the State Crime Lab – the last step in ensuring these kits are processed in a timely manner.
My Road Construction & Utility Relocation bill will keep construction projects on time and on budget by simplifying the steps that take place when a highway construction project is delayed due to utility infrastructure that has not been properly relocated.
The State Legislature also invested heavily into local governments in 2023, providing substantial increases to all of our municipalities: Ashwaubenon received a 194.2% increase, Howard received a 93.1% increase, Allouez received a 91.7% increase, and Green Bay received a 20% increase.
In June we continued the success by passing the 2023-25 state budget, which made critical investments into several key areas. Among these were $1 billion for K-12 classrooms throughout the state, increased funding for roads and bridges by $1.5 billion, and the repeal of the onerous personal property tax on Wisconsin businesses. Some close to home investments include $1.2 million for repairs to the Ray Nitschke Bridge in downtown Green Bay, and $50 million for the Southern Bridge Project in Brown County.
Looking Forward
As we step into the new year, I’m reminded of all we’ve accomplished in 2023. I look forward to building on that success with more victories for the 4th Assembly District and all of Wisconsin in 2024.
This year will bring new challenges, new opportunities, and new reasons to enjoy living in Wisconsin. Please know that my office is always here should you need help with a matter of state government.
