19th Senate District Update: March 8, 2024

This week I was honored to present a citation to Kate from Greenville in honor of her achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. She is building up quite an impressive resume – Senate Scholar, DECA leadership, Eagle Scout – and I look forward to seeing what she will accomplish in the future!

I also testified on Senate Bill 383 before the Senate Committee on Labor, Regulatory Reform, Veterans and Military Affairs. This bill will add Hmong veterans admitted to the United States under the Hmong Veterans’ Naturalization Act to the definition of “veteran” for the purposes of the status on state ID cards. Recognizing these veterans who served alongside our armed forces against communism is an important step in the right direction.

The Senate Health, Mental Health, and Universities and Revenue committees I serve on all met this week for public hearings and executive sessions in preparation for the floor next week. This included appointees to the Medical Examining Board and Board of Regents, along with many important bills as we continue wrapping things up this session in Madison.

My staff and I were also happy to meet with:

  • Tavern League of Wisconsin
  • Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Girls Basketball State Tournament
  • Wisconsin Coalition of Independent Living Centers

Next week, the senate will vote on several proposals passed by the Assembly, with the hope of sending them to the governor’s desk to be signed into law. I also look forward to many more meetings in Madison and around our area!
