19th Senate District Update: April 5, 2024

Read more about Act 148 here.

As the legislative session wraps up in Madison and we plan a busy summer in-district, I wanted to share some of the things we’ve gotten done for you this session.

One big change that will help families save for their kids’ college is our recent update to 529 (EdVest) accounts. Assembly Bill 793, now Act 148, was signed into law on March 21st.

As a mom of four, I know what a daunting challenge saving up for college can be. That’s why the legislature has taken action to make sure you have more tools in your pocket to help. Act 148 helps families save by making EdVest account contributions up to $5000 tax-deductible.

We also made sure you can use EdVest accounts for apprenticeships and loan repayments. As our education system evolves, we need to make sure the government is not standing in the way of you accessing your money.

My staff and I were also happy to meet with:

  • Winnebago County Human Services
  • Manawa Fire Department
  • Direct Primary Care Providers
  • Community members in Wautoma

Next week, I look forward to many more meetings in our area!
