I-41 Project Update

The following is a project update from the Department of Transportation regarding the I-41 corridor.

Beginning May 6, 2024, Rose Hill Road over I-41 in Little Chute will be closed to traffic and reconstructed. Drivers can expect a few nights of full closures on I-41 during demolition, and traffic will be detoured using County OO, WIS 55, and Edgewood Drive. Area residents may experience nighttime noise during the overnight demolition operations. In Outagamie County, our next round of scheduled closures will be at the County N interchange in July. In Brown County, French Road/Southbridge Roads are scheduled to close between Creamery Road and Lawrence Drive this fall.

Moving Forward with Session (2/20)

Great news, folks! In the next few weeks, we will be done reviewing previous floor periods. In the meantime, let’s get started on session from February 20th.

AB 29 is a bill I wrote that removes the sales tax application for precious metal bullion. Under the bill, “precious metal bullion” is defined as coins, bars, rounds, or sheets that contain at least 35 percent gold, silver, copper, platinum, or palladium.

Prior to this bill being signed into law, Wisconsin was only one of eight states that still placed a sales tax on precious metals, while all of our Midwest neighbors did not. This bill levels the playing field for Wisconsin’s precious metal sellers and prevents pushing consumers elsewhere for their business. Additionally, planning for retirement would be less expensive when diversifying a portfolio with investments in precious metals – something that is becoming more common.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 149.

AB 412 alters the current language in state statute to protect jurors and their families while they are still convened and deliberating. Current statute only applies once the verdict or indictment is reached.

I wrote this legislation to ensure that everyone in Wisconsin has the opportunity for a fair trial by a jury, as guaranteed by the 6th Amendment of the United States Constitution as well as the Wisconsin Constitution.

AB 91 would waive the application fee at Wisconsin’s public technical colleges and universities for veterans and active duty service members.

AB 225 designates portions of Highway 11 from the western border of Orfordville to the eastern border of Footville as the “Corporal Benjamin H. Neal Memorial Highway.”

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 215.

AB 232 adds Hmong Americans and Asian Americans to the statute that creates an educational goal for schools of educating students to: “an understanding of human relations, particularly with regard to American Indians, Black Americans, Hispanics”.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 266.

AB 255 would create a rural pharmacy practice grant program administered by the Higher Educational Aids Board.

AB 408 will allow people who are legally blind (as defined and qualified by the IRS) to be eligible to receive a nonrefundable tax credit to help cover a portion of the costs associated with their employment-related transportation needs.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 142.

AB 409 renames the section of US 63 in Pierce County, known as the Red Wing Bridge which crosses the Mississippi River and connects to Hagar City, as the ‘Eisenhower Bridge of Valor.’

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 268.

AB 425 allows for a state park pass to be good for an entire year- based on the month of sale.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 113.

AB 444 creates a legal process where an owner of real property affected by a deed or other instrument containing a discriminatory restriction can record a certification with the register of deeds to discharge and release the restriction from the property.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 210.

AB 450 allows schools to maintain a supply of glucagon for diabetic students who could have a diabetic episode.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 193.

AB 456 will preserve the memory of Deputy Kaitie Leising by designating a portion of State Highway 128 in St. Croix County with her name.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 269.

AB 463 extends routine protections that highway work zones enjoy to railroad construction and maintenance areas.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 159.

AB 492 would allow public landfills to establish proof of financial responsibility using the net worth test, which is currently allowed for private landfills, public utilities, and electric cooperatives.

This legislation has been signed into law by the governor and is now known as 2023 Wisconsin Act 107.
