Appleton Historical Society will hold a grand opening for the new location of its Appleton History Museum on Wednesday, November 20 with a public open house from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Appleton History Museum’s new location is 231 West Franklin Street, Appleton.
Appleton Mayor Jake Woodford and representations of Appleton Downtown Inc. will attend the 5:00 p.m. ribbon cutting.
The grand opening is free and open to the public. Donations to Appleton Historical Society will be accepted and memberships available.
With the move to the new location, the Appleton History Museum’s hours have expanded to include Thursday nights from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday nights will be free to the public.
The Appleton Historical Society was founded in 2010. Programming includes a monthly speaker series, annual cemetery walks, and other walking tours. In 2017 the Society opened its first museum at 128 North Durkee Street. That location is now closed.
The museum will include temporary exhibits on Appleton Basketball, Air Wisconsin, Presto Products, and Made in Appleton. It will also house a permanent exhibit on Courtney Woolen Mills, featuring two woolen machines from the 1880s that were moved in July from the riverfront to the Appleton History Museum. Both of these woolen machines will be operated for the public.
Museum admission is $5 a person or free for members. Museum hours are as follows:
Thursdays, 12:00 noon – 5:00 p.m.; 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. FREE
Fridays, 12:00 noon – 5:00 p.m.
Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m.
Sundays, 12:00 noon – 4:00 p.m.
