Gearing Up for the Next Session

The 2025-2026 legislative session officially kicks off in January and my office is busy in preparation. This week I announced plans to reintroduce my Court Fairness Bill, a proposal aimed at restoring impartiality into court cases involving partisan parties. Court cases involving the Legislature or other government entities often land in Dane County, with predictable outcomes. This week, for example, a Dane County judge ruled to strike down portions of Act 10, even though the law has been upheld by both state and federal courts. Under my proposed legislation, cases like this one, which involve the Legislature, would be given the option of having the circuit court venue randomly selected. Each of the circuit courts throughout our state have the capability and expertise to handle these types of cases. For more information, check out this news story about my proposal or read my press release below.

Nuclear Power in Wisconsin

This week I hosted a discussion on nuclear power in Wisconsin. I was grateful to have industry and subject matter experts join the discussion in exploring ways in which our state can develop nuclear-based power and economic opportunities. Today, about 20% of our state’s electricity is generated by nuclear power, but as energy demands continue to climb, it’s critical that Wisconsin focuses on ways to support this clean energy option. I look forward to continuing to dive into this exciting issue this coming session.

Capitol Christmas Tree Update

The 2024 capitol Christmas tree is now adorned with handmade ornaments from kids and families across the state. This year’s theme is, “125 Years of Wisconsin’s State Parks.” Everyone who participated did an excellent job of creatively reflecting the theme in their ornaments. The official tree lighting ceremony took place this week and the tree is as impressive and beautiful as always!
