Congressman Tony Wied’s Update: July 24, 2026

Members of Congress are sent to Washington to serve their constituents, not to use their time here as a steppingstone for personal gain.

Yet too often, we see Members of Congress eager to leverage their time in Washington to benefit themselves rather than the people they serve.

This week, I voted to support the Stop Insider Trading Act. This legislation prohibits Members of Congress, spouses, and dependent children from purchasing publicly traded stocks. The bill also requires public notice 7 days before a lawmaker, spouse, or dependent child may sell a stock.

I was happy to support this gesture, but let’s be real – insider trading is already entirely illegal.

If my colleagues on both sides of the aisle were serious about solving the actual problem, we would have gone much further with this legislation and addressed the real issue plaguing the swamp: career politicians using their connections and insider knowledge to enrich themselves as lobbyists and federal contractors after leaving office.

That is why, in addition to this week’s vote, I introduced the Safeguarding Ethics and Restoring Voter Expectations (SERVE) Act to do just that. This bill would establish a mandatory cooling-off period prohibiting politicians who are currently serving in Congress or any future one from serving as lobbyists or federal contractors for 10 years after leaving office.

Until we end this revolving door, career politicians will continue to abuse the system to enrich themselves and further erode trust in our government.

We are here to serve our constituents, not profit from our time in Washington. If my colleagues truly want to put an end to this personal enrichment scheme and restore the American people’s faith in Congress, I am calling on them to support this commonsense legislation.

Addressing America’s Blood Shortage
Last week, the American Red Cross declared a national blood crisis after the blood supply fell 25% and now sits at critically low levels. At times like this, we must act to help boost our nation’s supply. That is why I am calling on my colleagues to support my Boosting Lifesaving Operations, Opening Donation (BLOOD) Centers Act to expedite blood centers’ ability to open new locations and collect more life-saving blood. This commonsense legislation would streamline the ability for blood centers in good standing to receive licenses to open new centers. This would allow them to bring centers to new locations and provide more opportunities for people to donate. I will continue working to get this bill passed to improve the quantity of our nation’s blood supply and streamline the opening of new blood centers. I also want to encourage everyone reading this today to consider taking the time to donate blood if you can. While it may feel like a small act, it can literally save someone’s life.

AirVenture Is Here
You may have noticed an increased number of aircraft flying around the area lately, which can only mean one thing. Every year, the Experimental Aircraft Association hosts its annual AirVenture event in Oshkosh, which attracts pilots, aviation enthusiasts, and companies from around the world. Although just outside of the 8th Congressional District, AirVenture brings hundreds of thousands of people to Northeast Wisconsin and makes the airspace around the region the busiest in the world for the week, with multiple planes landing on the same runway simultaneously. Over the last year and a half, I have served on the Aviation subcommittee within the Transportation and Infrastructure committee and have learned the important role that general aviation plays in the field of aviation. The industry supports over 1.3 million jobs across the country and generates almost $340 billion in total economic output. If you find yourself outdoors this weekend and hear the hum of an aircraft engine, take a moment to look up – you might see something truly memorable.

Celebrating 80 years of Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy
It is an honor of a lifetime to represent the people of Wisconsin’s Eighth Congressional District. Northeast Wisconsin is the best place to live, work, and raise a family and we have so many incredible people who call it home. As your Congressman, it is my honor to recognize the great people and communities throughout Northeast Wisconsin. I recently recognized Pagel’s Ponderosa Dairy as they celebrate 80 years of hard work in the dairy industry. Congratulations to the entire Pagel Family and thank you for your leadership in the local community and Wisconsin agriculture.

Healthcare Heroes: Visiting the Green Bay Rehabilitation Hospital
[see featured photo above] I had the opportunity to visit the Green Bay Rehabilitation Hospital for a tour of the facility and to meet with many of their incredible team members. The Green Bay Rehabilitation Hospital provides specialized inpatient and outpatient rehabilitative services to patients throughout Northeast Wisconsin. It was great to witness firsthand the world class care they provide and to learn more about their organization. Thank you to all of our healthcare workers for your incredible work each and every day.
