19th Senate District Update: July 11, 2025

Hello! I hope you had a good week.

This week, my staff and I met with folks from the Youth Leadership Forum (YLF), the Department of Health Services (DHS), and quite a few folks in our area. The YLF is a week-long program for high school students with disabilities in Wisconsin, designed to teach leadership skills and encourage community involvement. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce youth to their elected officials and their staff, reinforcing that everyone can take action on issues important to them and that legislators are people like everyone else.

Our meeting with DHS was regarding a bill Rep. Kitchens and I are working on about nursing home bed transfers. In the meeting, we discussed the best path forward for our seniors and assisted living facilities to get the beds they need when they need them. Currently, wait times for additional beds can take weeks or months, and that affects the quality of care that can be given to residents.

In our area, I was happy to tour and spend some time in Plainfield to learn more and interact with folks from the Tri-County Area School District. We also spent some time at the Hancock Research Station to celebrate their Potato Field Day. I spoke with researchers, students, and staff about the important work they are doing, including studying soil composition, groundwater quality, and crop storage, among other things. It was quite an interesting experience learning about how their research supports farms around the area!

I hope you and your family have a great weekend!

Thank you to all the folks who came out to learn more about the important research the UW Agricultural Research Station in Hancock is working on!
