19th Senate District Update: December 19, 2025

Happy Friday!

This week has been quite busy, with the Senate Committee on Mental Health holding a public hearing and various meetings both in Madison and back in the district.

During the hearing, my bill, Senate Bill 646, was heard. This legislation addresses a critical gap in our statutes regarding competency evaluations for involuntarily committed individuals who may refuse medication or treatment. Currently, these examinations are restricted to physicians only, which can significantly delay care for those in need due to limited physician availability. The bill would expand this authority to include advanced practice registered nurses—particularly those with prescriptive privileges and proven expertise in psychiatric care, gained through education or experience—allowing them to conduct these evaluations as well.

In Madison, I met with representatives from the American College of Cardiology, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and the Amputee Coalition. The discussions with the American College of Cardiology and the Amputee Coalition were introductory in nature, focusing on their organizations’ missions and key legislative priorities for the upcoming session. The meeting with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield centered on their innovative healthcare initiatives and planned business developments for the new year.

Closer to home, I had the opportunity to tour the Amcor packaging facility in New London. It was rewarding to connect with the staff, learn about their ongoing work, and hear about the company’s future aspirations. Additionally, I met with representatives from Network Health in Menasha to discuss their legislative priorities for this session and the various challenges confronting the insurance industry.

I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead, and wishing you a very Merry Christmas! I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming parades and community events throughout our area!
