The Epoch Times recently re-printed an article from US News (I think) titled Jury Selection to Begin in High-Stakes Social Media Addiction Trial. The article talks about our poor children and how their “depression, anxiety, and body dysmorphia” are due to exposure to “social media. Yup. It’s someone else’s fault and some lawyer wants money. It goes on to reference some 19-year-old California (whodaguessed it) girl called KMG, who has allegedly been “addicted” to social media for 10 years.
10 years? Do the math and you’ll find that she started at age 9. And exactly WHO was in charge of that girl at age 9? Did she have parents, or was she raised by Microsoft and friends? Might it be fair to say that it is the responsibility of HER PARENTS to lead her down the good paths in life and keep her off of the bad ones? But now, 10 years later, some lawyer comes along and says that he can extract a pile of cash from some companies. ‘It’s the companies’ fault. YOU being an incompetent parent had nothing to do with it.’
And while we’re at it, WHY are you an incompetent parent? Didn’t your primary and secondary schools teach you anything about common sense? How about YOUR parents? Didn’t they teach you anything? Maybe you should start some more lawsuits? Someone needs to be held responsible for your being an idiot.
“Social Media” is no different from booze, cigarettes, pot, or any of the other vices out there. It is the responsibility of parents to be parents and control access to bad things. Maybe they should have tried just saying “NO!” And after that, “Because I said so!”
Maybe, just maybe, the alleged parents should put down their phones and try something new, like parenting.
