It’s common sense: only American citizens should be able to vote in and influence American elections. For months, House Republicans have been working to ensure that is the case and that Americans can have faith in our elections.
As Wieders know, we have passed the SAVE America Act numerous times over the last several months. This legislation would require individuals to prove they are U.S. citizens when registering to vote and show identification to verify they are who they say they are. These are commonsense measures that 84% of Americans support.
Last night, President Trump addressed the nation to discuss newly declassified documents that showed foreign governments tried to influence the 2020 election. This should concern every single American.
For years, we heard from Democrats about Russia attempting to meddle in our elections in 2016, yet they do not want to hear about any possible interference from China in 2020. This should not be a partisan issue. We should all be able to agree that no foreign nation should interfere or attempt to influence U.S. elections. Period.
These newly declassified documents show that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) obtained 220 million Americans’ voter data. While this does not mean they changed any votes or election results, it is still deeply concerning that a foreign adversary is collecting sensitive information to influence American citizens.
In addition, President Trump stated that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) also found nearly 275,000 noncitizens on voter rolls in four states. That is completely unacceptable.
This is why it is critical that the Senate passes the SAVE America Act immediately. We cannot stand idly by and allow foreigners to influence our elections. By ensuring that you must show proof of citizenship to register to vote and ID when it’s time to vote, we can strengthen confidence in our elections and help guard against future interference.
Both of our neighbors, Canada and Mexico, along with all twelve South American countries, require voter IDs to cast a ballot – it is long past time for the United States to do the same and secure our elections for the American people. I am calling on every one of my Senate colleagues to get the job done and send the SAVE America Act to President Trump’s desk.

Requesting the EPA Act on Canadian Wildfire Smoke
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have probably seen and felt the impact of Canadian wildfire smoke over the last few days as air quality indexes across the state have risen to hazardous levels. This has now become a recurring problem and has significant harmful effects on residents, particularly seniors, children, and at-risk groups. That is why I joined my fellow Wisconsin delegation members in requesting that the EPA utilize the tools in the U.S.-Canada Air Quality Agreement to address this issue. Under Article V of the U.S.-Canada AQA, both countries are required to engage in formal consultations when requested. This provision ensures that any initiatives or activities suspected of generating substantial cross-border air pollution are addressed through bilateral cooperation. I remain committed to working with my colleagues in Congress to explore ways to address and solve this issue.
Restoring the American Dream of Homeownership
This week, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act became law. This bipartisan legislation, which I was proud to support, passed the House of Representatives back in June by a vote of 358-32. The law will help lower housing construction costs, cut red tape, encourage more competitive zoning policies, and prevent large Wall Street corporations from buying up single-family homes. Housing across the country has become increasingly expensive. In fact, house prices in Wisconsin have risen by 67% since 2020. It was well past time for Congress to act, and I am glad to see this legislation become law. It makes important strides toward addressing the housing crisis and helping make the American Dream of homeownership a reality once again.

America’s Dairy Country: Visit to Ornua Ingredients

It was great to connect with so many team members from throughout the district, including the company’s President, Ryan Toreson. Reminder: Register for the 2026 Congressional App Challenge!
My office is now accepting applications for the 2026 Congressional App Challenge! All middle school and high school students in the Eighth Congressional District are eligible to participate. This challenge is the official STEM competition of the U.S. House of Representatives and is a great way for students to work on their critical thinking and creativity! The winning app in each district will be featured on the House.gov website and the CongressionalAppChallenge.us website. The winning app in each district will also be able to receive a copyright fee waiver. Students should register online and, once their app is built, submit a short video showing what it does and how it works, along with a brief description, the tools used, and what inspired you. The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, October 26, 2026. You can find additional information regarding the challenge on my website here.
