Happy Friday!
This week, the governor signed into law several bills I authored that successfully passed both chambers of the legislature. These include the creation of a veterinary loan repayment program, which will provide financial assistance to attract and retain veterinarians in rural areas. This initiative directly addresses veterinarian shortages that affect Wisconsin’s farms and livestock producers.
We also secured passage of a campground property tax relief bill, which offers important exemptions for prefabricated recreational structures at licensed campgrounds. This measure will help support our state’s outdoor recreation and tourism economy. Another bill was signed into law that prohibited the mandated use of credit card payments for health care providers when working with insurers, giving them viable alternatives to the mandatory use of high-fee virtual credit cards for claims reimbursement.
Finally, a bill that will directly impact health care costs was signed. This bill would allow facilities to discount the cost of a service up to 15% to patients who pay their out-of-pocket costs promptly. This change will help reduce medical expenses for Wisconsin families while easing administrative burdens for providers.
Each of these new laws is designed to deliver real, practical benefits to Wisconsinites—whether by strengthening rural veterinary care, supporting family-friendly recreation opportunities, or making health care more affordable and accessible.
Our office also held productive meetings this week with representatives from the Wisconsin STEP Fellowship and the Center for Health Systems & Innovation. It was valuable to hear directly from them about the challenges and opportunities they face in their respective fields, especially as we begin preparing legislation for the next session.
I hope you and your family have a relaxing and enjoyable Easter weekend!
