This week, after years of violent crime running rampant in our nation’s capital, President Trump took Washington, DC under federal control.
This comes in the wake of a DOGE staffer being assaulted by multiple assailants in an attempted carjacking, and a Congressional intern was murdered outside of a DC Metro stop. These are just the latest in a wave of violent crime that has plagued the city for years as a direct result of soft-on-crime policies.
President Trump has full authority to take Washington, DC under federal control and I believe it is absolutely the right decision. We should never have to accept that our nation’s capital must remain crime ridden. He’s putting the safety of residents and the millions of visitors who come to DC every year first.
Members of my own staff live in the city, and they should not have to worry about their safety when commuting to and from work.
Even though his only goal is to make DC a safe city once again, Democrats and the mainstream media are treating this as if it’s somehow a bad thing. They continue to prioritize criminals over law-abiding citizens, and this is just the latest example.
I am proud to stand with our law enforcement officers and believe every American has the right to feel safe in their communities. I applaud the President for continuing to work to Make America Safe Again, and I’m hopeful that we will see our nation’s capital become the safe and respected city the American people deserve.
Thank you for starting your weekend off with us! I hope you enjoy this week’s edition of The Wied Wire.

District Update
American Dairy Coalition Annual Meeting
[see featured photo above] I enjoyed the opportunity to speak at the American Dairy Coalition’s Annual Meeting to discuss the significant impact that the One Big Beautiful Bill will have on farmers right here in WI-08 and across our nation. Our farmers are the backbone of our country, and this bill delivers the support and investments they deserve.
Seneca Foods in Gillett
I recently visited Seneca Foods in Gillett to meet with their team and tour the facility where they prep and can green beans from over 66 farms – many of the farms being 3rd of 4th generation. Their impressive production facility, including 9 canning lines, 9 continuous cookers, and 1 labeling line, allows for an average processing time of 6 hours from harvest to the finished product. Thank you to Jeremy Herman and the entire Seneca Foods team for having me and for showcasing the great work being done up in Gillett!

Breaking Ground in De Pere
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Marriott TownePlace Suites Hotel in De Pere was held earlier this week. A member of my staff attended the event to celebrate the new project and anticipated growth in tourism in De Pere’s downtown area. The 5-story construction was designed to maintain the grounded architecture of the surrounding buildings and to provide walkable access to visitors to enjoy the Broadway district. I wish the construction crew the best as they begin the project and I can’t wait to see the impact this will have on our community!

Full Circle Community Farm
I recently had the opportunity to visit Full Circle Community Farm and was given a tour of the operation by one of the owners and fifth generation farmer, Andrew Adamski. Full Circle Community Farm is certified organic and produces organic vegetables, pasture-raised eggs, grass-fed beef, and pastured pork. The farm also started a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) that provides organic farmers with the opportunity to connect and give back to their local communities. It was great to learn more about the farm’s production and discuss how I can be helpful to them in Congress. Thank you to Andrew, Heather, and the entire Full Circle Community Farm for taking the time to show me your impressive operation!

We have received so many wonderful pictures since we launched the Photo of the Week section of the Wied Wire, and I would love to see more. This week’s photo is of World War II airman and Shawano native Pvt. Herbert E. McLaughlin, who was finally brought home to be laid to rest in Wisconsin after being identified in December 2024. Heroes like Pvt. McLaughlin are the reason we get to live in the greatest country in the world, and we are forever grateful for his service to our nation. If you would like to submit a picture to be featured in our Photo of the Week section, please email it to twstaff@mail.house.gov with your name and location.
