Congressman Tony Wied’s Update: July 11, 2025

This week, I introduced legislation today to support small businesses in Wisconsin’s 8th District and around the United States by giving them a direct line to voice regulatory concerns, seek relief from unnecessary bureaucratic burdens, and reduce red tape.

The Destroying Unnecessary, Misaligned, and Prohibitive (DUMP) Red Tape Act will create a dedicated hotline for small business owners to report overly burdensome or unnecessary federal regulations to the Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy.

During the last four years, the United States saw an unprecedented surge in federal regulations (red tape) instituted under the Biden Administration. A 2024 report by the House Committee on Oversight found that the Biden Administration added an astonishing $1.7 trillion in new regulatory costs during their time in office. This added over 300 million regulatory paperwork hours, created unnecessary hurdles for small business owners to overcome, and made it more difficult to maintain and grow their businesses. I am committed to ensuring that we bring an end to this.

Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, but they often lack the time and resources to navigate complex regulatory frameworks. As a former small business owner, I know firsthand how burdensome regulations can make it harder for businesses to operate and turn a profit. The DUMP Red Tape Act addresses this issue by giving small businesses owners a direct line to make their voices heard, report the unnecessary regulations, and ensure those complaints are documented and reviewed so Congress can act.

By offering a streamlined and responsive feedback loop, this bill promotes cutting red tape and limiting regulations by highlighting rules in need of reform, strengthening transparency across federal agencies, and elevating the voice of small business owners, ensuring the government remains accountable and adaptive.

I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass this commonsense legislation and bringing much needed relief to small business owners in Wisconsin’s 8th District and across our country.

Thank you for starting your weekend off with us. I hope you enjoy this week’s edition of The Wied Wire.

District Update

Leaders in Trucking: WEL Companies
I recently had the opportunity to visit WEL Companies who are leaders in the refrigerated trucking business. As a family-owned business, it was great to meet with the Tielens Family and members of their team for a tour of their headquarters in De Pere. Over the years, WEL Companies has grown significantly and now runs over 500 trucks and 800 trailers. As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I look forward to working together with WEL Companies to discuss how I can be helpful moving forward!

Breakfast on the Farm
This past weekend, my family and I attended the Annual FFA Dairy Breakfast on the Farm event held at Wilke “R” Organic Farm in Door County. Thank you to Kevin and the entire Wilke Family for your hospitality and for organizing such a successful event that highlighted the importance of the agriculture industry.

NEW Business: North Shore Bank
This week, I joined the De Pere Area Chamber of Commerce at a ribbon cutting event to celebrate North Shore Bank’s new branch location in De Pere. It’s always great to see new businesses in the community and I wish the entire North Shore Bank team the best of luck at their new location!
