Lawrence University Student Group Under Siege

In 2017, a student from our school conducted a study of humor by showing the film Can We Take a Joke. The results were as you would expect. The students were disgusted by the film calling it “triggering,” “sloppy white supremacists’ propaganda,” and “offensive comedy.” I guess some things never change.

Back in September 2025, in a conversation with a 5th year senior, we discussed how we have been fed only one side of the political narrative and only subjected to ideals in our education that appeal to the Marxist and socialist ideologies. We both expressed our opinions in a respectable manner, and we decided that night that we will no longer just go along to get along, we are going to fight back against the Godless rhetoric.

We decided to bring a chapter of Turning Point USA to our campus and place the foundation for our politics in our faith, just as Mr. Charlie Kirk did. We found a group of students who both shared our faith as well as our political mindset and held our first large group meeting after two weeks of initial application for a chapter. I serve as the president and the 5th year senior serves as the vice president of the club.

After the first large group meeting, we posted on our Instagram page as a soft launch to our peers on campus. I knew we were going to receive backlash, so I attempted to protect the identity of the other students in the group.

I grossly underestimated the amount of hate we would receive. Within hours of our post, we were getting comments calling us nazis, racists, christcucks, white supremacists, fascists, and a lot of other clever comments based on our post. The next day I was getting personal dm’s and one student in particular decided it to be wise to speak about my mother. Another member of our group got several dms telling her to kill herself and calling her racist, as well as citing me as “her racists a** boyfriend.” Despite all of this we chose not to respond, and I instructed the group to not give them the time of day because that’s the trap they want you to fall into.

As I walk around campus, I see people giving me looks and in the cafeteria, people intentionally avoiding me, but that’s neither here nor there. We are standing strong in our faith and are going to apply for university recognition to be able to host events on campus. We are going to attempt to hold respectable conversation with our peers to debate policy and faith. Attached within the email are going to be the links for the study cited above and our post so that you can read some of the comments for yourselves. I thank you for your time and your willingness to consider our group. We are behind enemy lines, and any support media wise I believe will help us!

God bless and continue the fight until we finish the race.

  1. I have been a long time fan of Lawrence University sports going back to my childhood. I have attended many games and used the facilities many times over the years. I actually contemplated enrolling at Lawrence but eventually decided not to attend college at all and started working for my fathers business instead. I hadn’t been to a football game for quite some time and decided to attend one last fall despite their terrible record. It brought back many great memories and I will probably attend more in the future. I know most Universities lean to the Liberal side and I assumed Lawrence was no different. I was saddened to hear how bad that has gotten with the censorship that was mentioned in the email. God was definitely missing in the lives of some of the students whose obvious bad behavior I witnessed at the game. God’s presence is certainly needed at Lawrence and I pray that your efforts are successful. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers as your journey won’t be without resistance from the extreme left. Stay strong and stay safe my friends. I prefer to stay anonymous. Thanks

  2. Zach as a Lawrence Alumni (class of 76) I applaud you for having the courage to bring a Turning Point Chapter onto the Lawrence Campus. I agree with the Turning Points mission of freedom, free markets, and limited government. I hope that you have the opportunity with a Turning Point chapter to express these values to the student body through open nonpartisan debate and discussion. Good Luck,
