Isn’t it funny how subjects like “Property Taxes” can really stir things up? I received this reply to my School Board Meetings message from Miss M:
I reside in Muskego… I have attended several of their school board meetings as well as a couple of their Educational Committee meetings. It was mentioned at the last Annual Meeting about declining enrollment and possibly where to make cuts. I took it upon myself to research just who was on payroll. I eliminated the administration and their staff/custodians/safety aides/reading specialists/social workers and psychologists as well as educators. Here’s what I discovered:
Educational assistants: 44
Learning Strategists: 35
Instructional Assistants: 76
Interventionist: 2
Interventional specialist: 1
Interventional Aides: 1
I inquired about these numbers to two school members and received lukewarm answers. They couldn’t even define job description for these titles. Really!?!
So although I have lot on my plate-I’m going to send some open letter
requests to the district. I truly feel we could cut these positions in
half (or am I dreaming!?)
When reading her comments my first thought was, “Wow! Were the words ‘where to make cuts’ actually used at a School Board Meeting?” (More proof that God DOES exist.)
My second thought was that this type of citizen behavior and activism is exactly what we need and exactly what was envisioned by those wise souls who wrote our founding documents.
What a contrast between this approach and the astro-turf protesting going on in Minnesota. How refreshing it is to see calm, rational, logical behavior used to deal with government. This is the stuff that will actually get things done and actually make a difference in your Property Tax Bills.
Keep it up, Miss M. Millions of voters think the same way you do. We just need them to make their voices heard.
