19th Senate District Update: December 12, 2025

Happy Friday! I hope you and your family are staying warm during this bout of snowstorms & chilly temperatures!

This week was a busy one, with many of our bills receiving hearings both in the Senate and Assembly. The first is a proposal that I am working on with Representative Petersen’s office on behalf of our constituents to fix an unfair tax levy on campgrounds by establishing a tax exemption for prefabricated recreational structures. Beyond resolving an issue of fairness for individual owners, this proposal acts as a necessary support for Wisconsin’s robust tourism and campground industries. Crucially, this bill is also fiscally responsible and ensures that our local governments are protected from potential loss of revenue.

Another proposal that received a hearing was Assembly Bill 590. This bill addresses a critical gap in our current statutes by broadening the definition of “physical activity” in statute, shifting from a narrow focus on “vigorous” participation to “moderate or greater” levels. In doing so, it empowers licensed athletic trainers to provide preventive care, injury evaluation, and treatment to a wider array of individuals—from weekend warriors to working professionals—ensuring that more Wisconsin families can stay safe and mobile in their pursuit of wellness.

Back home in our area, I was able to join a group of nursing students and professors at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh (UWO) and was able to dig into how health care and the legislature work hand-in-hand to try and improve safety, affordability, and treatment effectiveness for patients across the state. As a former instructor there, it was great to be back and catch up with folks! I was also able to meet with the chancellor at UWO to discuss the challenges and opportunities the campus faces in the future.

I hope you have a great week as we head deeper into the holiday season, and I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming parades and events around our area (see below for Weyauwega’s parade)!
