Happy Friday!
This was another very busy and productive week in the Legislature. It featured a packed schedule of discussions on key legislation, a Senate floor session, hearings in the Senate Health, Transportation, and Agriculture committees, the annual State of the Tribes address, and numerous productive meetings both in Madison and around our area.
The week began in the Capitol, where we hosted several advocacy groups for thoughtful and engaging conversations about ongoing legislation and potential future initiatives. Among the organizations represented were Beta Sigma Gamma, the Wisconsin Librarians Association, Healthy Climate Wisconsin, the REALTORS Association of Wisconsin, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Wisconsin Bankers Association, the Wisconsin Cheesemakers Association, and the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin. I also had the honor of attending the 22nd annual State of the Tribes address in the Assembly Chamber. This event brought together representatives from Wisconsin’s 11 federally recognized tribes, state leaders, and members of the Legislature. Chairwoman Nicole Boyd of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa delivered an address focused on ecological stewardship, education, and economic priorities for tribal communities.
On Wednesday, the Senate convened for a floor session to advance several important bills. These included my proposals to create a veterinary loan repayment grant program (to support veterinarians in rural areas), a property tax exemption for temporary campers on campgrounds, allow discounts for prompt payment of health care bills, establish a “Teacher’s Bill of Rights” to support our educators, and advance the administrative red tape reset package. This comprehensive package of bills seeks to restore greater control of regulations made by unelected bureaucrats, support Wisconsin families and businesses, and make sure our educators can get back to what they do best: teach, not fear for their safety in the classroom.
Thursday included a public hearing in the Senate Health Committee, where we examined my bill to establish a drug repository program (aimed at safely redistributing unused medications) and Senator Quinn’s bill regarding requirements for community-based residential facilities to use a memory care designation. We also continued our productive dialogue with advocacy groups on ongoing and emerging legislative priorities, including meetings with representatives from the Wisconsin Child Support Enforcement Association, Pepsi-Oshkosh, Central WI Days, and FIRST Robotics Team 93 from the Appleton Area School District.
Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead!
