19th Senate District Update: January 19, 2024

Hello! This week, the Senate held a floor session where we voted on dozens of important items, including five bills I was proud to work on with stakeholders and folks around our area. These included a nearly $3 billion “Return Your Surplus” tax cut (click here for my remarks on that bill), reducing regulatory tape for nurses to enter the workforce, and allowing for prospective adoptive parents to fulfill their interactive training virtually.

I also held a Health Committee vote on a critical bill expanding access to life-saving breast cancer screenings for the 40% of women with dense breast tissue. That bill passed out of both the Assembly and Senate committees unanimously, and both versions now await being put on the floor calendar in both houses. I personally want to thank all of the women from our district and across Wisconsin who continue to advocate for this bill.

Other committees I serve on held hearings this week, including the Senate Committees on Universities and Revenue. A critical bill, which would help keep more of Wisconsin’s best and brightest students here, received a public hearing on Wednesday and gained the support of the Universities of Wisconsin. I am hopeful that this proposal will continue moving through the process.

My staff and I were also happy to meet with:

  • Wisconsin Farmers Union
  • Fox Cities Convention and Visitors Bureau
  • WI Chiefs of Police Association
  • Badger State Sheriffs’ Association
  • Children’s Wisconsin
  • Houdini Elementary School

Next week, there are several committee hearings in the capitol! Three committees I serve on will be meeting, plus three more bills I authored are continuing to move through the public hearing process. Here is the full calendar of events. I am also looking forward to many meetings around our area!
