Touring Our Local Technical School
I had the opportunity to tour Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) this week and hear directly from students and professionals participating in their various programs. The tour and discussion were fantastic opportunities to experience and learn firsthand how these programs are benefiting students, industry, and our state. I’m glad to continually support our tech colleges as they educate the next generation of Wisconsin’s workforce, including critical trades to meet the needs of tomorrow.
The NWTC tour concluded with a notable proclamation ceremony. Authored by Representative Franklin, the Legislature passed AJR 97 proclaiming October as “Careers in Construction Month.” The construction industry is one of the largest employers in Wisconsin, and it possesses a unique footprint as the base for every industry. NWTC and the state technical colleges play a huge role in filling these essential jobs with career-ready graduates. Thank you to Associated Builders and Contractors of Wisconsin for helping coordinate the visit, to NWTC for hosting the tour and ceremony, and to the students and industry leaders for sharing your experiences and insights.
Fishing Season Around the Corner
With fishing season beginning next Saturday, May 2nd, the WI Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is advising that you may see walleyes with a green, yellow, or red tag if you are fishing in the Bay of Green Bay and its tributaries (see picture below from the DNR). The Department is continuing the walleye reward tag study in this region, which began in 2024 and encourages anglers to report their catches of tagged walleye to help the DNR understand current harvest and walleye movement patterns in Green Bay.
If you report catching a walleye with a red tag that is currently valid and can provide proper verification of the tag, you can collect a $100 reward. If you harvest the walleye, you can present the physical tag to the DNR. If releasing the walleye, you can take a close-up picture of the tag with the three-digit number and a picture of the angler holding the walleye. Please leave the tag attached if releasing the fish.
All tagged fish can be reported by emailing DNRFHGBFISH@WI.GOV, calling 920-662-5411, or mailing the tag to:
ATTN: Fish Biologist
2984 Shawano Ave.
Green Bay, WI 54313
Please include the tag number, tag color, species, length, location caught, date caught, and whether the fish was harvested or released. Learn more about this program here: https://dnr.wisconsin.

National Drug Take Back Day
National Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, April 25th. This biannual event has participation from law enforcement agencies and state and local health departments in an effort to encourage Wisconsinites to dispose of unwanted and unused medications in a safe and responsible manner.
Utilizing these resources can work to prevent harm and abuse of over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs. This includes keeping these substances out of our environment and our water supply by handing them to the appropriate authorities to be properly disposed of.
